Settlement Achieved in Major Age and Sex discrimination Case for Amit Kajla

Following much media interest we are able to confirm that the employment team at Davies and Partners Solicitors has negotiated an out of court settlement for an undisclosed sum on behalf of their client, Amit Kajla.

Ms Kajla, 22, from Wolverhampton, brought the case against HMPS following her resignation from HM Prison in Brinsford, Wolverhampton, where she worked as a Prison Officer from July 2007 to May 2008.

During her time at the Prison Ms Kajla had suffered harassment and discrimination from a male prison officer, due to the fact she was a young and attractive female, working in a predominantly male environment.  She had resigned following her treatment and a tribunal previously accepted that under the circumstances this amounted to unfair dismissal and age and sex discrimination.

The settlement was achieved on the eve of a scheduled tribunal hearing to consider compensation which the HMPS should be ordered to pay.
